Say yes to thy wings

Tucked in a small corner of Queensway lie this small little quaint estate, which seems stuck in the 1960s. What greets you when you go into Commonwealth Drive are short two-storey shop houses along bumpy tarmac roads, that seem to be crying out for a new surface.
Let not the old (and almost derelict) look fool you for there lies a gem of a food stall here. Hidden in a dark and dirty coffeeshop in Block 117 is Eng Kee, a stall that sells one of the most delicious fried bee hoon across our entire island.
Not only is the bee hoon piping hot, it is soft and fried such that it is not in flakes and pieces. There is a fragrance that accompanies the bee hoon which indicates that the right amount of fire has been used to fry the vermicelli and yet not overfried.

What tops the bee hoon off has to be the fried chicken wings. It is clearly the best selling item that the shop owner has in his stall. Everyone, who queues up for the bee hoon, will almost definitely walk off with a plate of chicken wings in tow. The chicken wings are crispy and when you bite into it, there is scarcely any tinge of oil in it. That certainly was one reason why the wings did not put me off and make me want to eat one more after another.
Foodie says: "The bee hoon here is really not bad. One of the few delicious bee hoon around. They also sell other 'side dishes' to accompany the bee hoon. For eg, ngoh hiang (fried minced meat roll), otah and mixed vegetables. All the 'side dishes' we tried were quite good. What I love most about this stall is its fried chicken wings. Initially, I only ordered one to try. However, I couldn't resist the temptation of getting more and ordered a few more. They are really good. The skin was crispy and fragrant, the inside was tender and not too salty. Unlike many of the chicken wings these days. They are not too greasy also. This place is really worth a try. A wonderful weekend supper!"

117, Commonwealth Drive #01-177
(Look out for the gigantic chicken wing signage at the corner of Commonwealth Drive and Commonwealth Crescent)
Opening hours: 3pm-11pm (the owner said that usually around 11pm, when they see less people around the area, they will start to pack up the stall. In order not to get disappointed, do go early)
